September 10, 2013

The time has finally arrived!!! A new playground for McLouth Elementary is on its way and we are asking for your help! McLouth USD #342 is seeking interest for any and all volunteers, who would like to be a contributor to this awesome project for our students. Thanks to the PTOs generous starting donation of $10,000 and the boards commitment to the need for new equipment, we will be installing a state of the art play structure (appropriate for grades PreK-5). The structure has two slides, multiple climbing options, and a wheelchair transfer station. In addition to the play structure, the new playground will include a two swing bay, and a stand-alone creative monkey bar unit. A rubberized play surface (on top of a concrete slab) will be included in a 22 by 44 section of the playground, allowing for a zero entry point for all students, regardless of ability.

If you are interested in helping with this community project, please contact Steve Splichal, Superintendent at 913-796-2201. Volunteers for this project may come in many forms: time for labor, use and/or operation of machinery, concrete installation, food for workers, or monetary donations. Should anyone be interested in making a donation, anonymously or otherwise, please contact Mr. Splichal. All monetary donations to the school board should indicate playground renovation in the memo line, accompanied by a letter to the school board, specifying your wishes for the donation. Anyone willing to volu nteer, please submit a letter acknowledging your intent to volunteer. If you are wishing to donate concrete for the slab or the use and/or operation of your machinery, please indicate when you would be available to help with the installation. We want to make sure we appropriately acknowledge our contributors.

Again, this is an exciting opportunity that has been needed for some time. Should you have any questions about the playground, or are interested in volunteering or donating, please contact Steve Splichal, Superintendent at 913-796-2201.
